Goals and Hurdles

According to Earl Nightingale, "People with goals succeed because they know where they are going." This quote basically means that being a goal-setter can really help me succeed in my EnglCom writing class despite the various hurdles. Problems in life are not there to burden us, problems are there to make us become stronger and more successful. Even though there are hurdles in achieving my goals, I do believe that by studying hard, prioritizing important requirements, and handling stress, I would be able to accomplish my goals and become a better person.

There are three goals in my EnglCom class which I really want to achieve. First, I would like to apply in life the lessons I learned in class because I believe that life starts not in school, but in life after college. Second, I would like to learn new things like how to be an effective communicator, how to write effectively, and how to inspire people. I want to learn these things because I believe that I can use these skills when I become an entrepreneur. Finally, I want to pass with a high grade because having a high grade would mean that I understand the lessons and can therefor apply these things in life. Having goals like these would set up a path for me to creep in even in times of problems and downfall.

Having goals would surely come with obstacles in the same way revenues come with expenses. However, I would use these hurdles for my advantage because these obstacles only make me stronger and more eager to achieve my goals. Stress in school is one of the major problems that I am currently experiencing. Stress reduces a student's overall efficiency. Examples of stress are burden of homework and lots of quizzes to review for. Another hurdle that hinders me from achieving my goal is the temptation of virtual games. Useless games eat away my time for review or quality-time. Finally, my study habits are messed up. Having a bad study habit would hinder me from doing anything productive. As of the moment , this quote " It's better to be lazy than to be tired" resonates in my head. After realizing that all these hurdles that hinder me from reaching my maximum potential, I have formulated a logical solution on how I can overcome these hurdles; therefore, achieving my goals. To be able to combat stress, resist temptation, and fix bad study habits, I should learn how to prioritize important things. By prioritizing important things, I would be able to finish all my homeworks on time thus reducing stress on my part. Furthermore, by doing my homeworks first, I would not have time to play games and therefore resisting temptations of playing. Learning how to prioritize would also solve my bad study habits.

To be able to become a better student, an effective communicator, and successful entrepreneur, I must overcome hurdles and in the process, become stronger and better. I believe that learning how to prioritize important things and being a goal-setter, I can achieve my maximum potential and become the best person that I can be. I now leave you with this quote "An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, just imagine that it's going to launch you into something great." Always remember that all hurdles have one thing in common, they are meant to be overcome, and in the process, becoming a step closer to your goals!

  1. You have a great attention grabber and a strong conclusion. Each paragraph develops one main idea with adequate supporting details. Your ideas flow smoothly. Good job!
